Why Study Abroad in CyprusCyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia (both in terms of area and population). It is strategically located at the intersection of three continents; Europe, Middle East and Africa. Cyprus was colonized by the British, and they got their independence on the 1st of October 1960.

In the year 1974 Cyprus got divided into two separate states namely – TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) and The Republic of Cyprus (south). The boundary separating the two sides is known as the “Green Line” it runs through Nicosia the capital of both North and South Cyprus.
The North is a self-declared state that comprises of the northeastern portion of the island of Cyprus recognized only by Turkey. Northern Cyprus is considered by the international community as Turkish-occupied territory of the Republic of Cyprus. The south also is a self-declared state, but they are recognized by the European Union. Cyprus is a major tourist destination in the Mediterranean; they joined the European Union on 1 May 2004 and the Euro-zone On 1 January 2008.

Compared to more popular Study Abroad Destinations around the world, Cyprus has a lower number of international students, this makes study much more interaction between students and the instructor. With international students from over 25 countries including India, Nigeria, Russia, china and many others, students are guaranteed to have a very multi-cultural experience.
The official Languages in Cyprus are Greek and Turkish. International students should note that, because Cyprus was a British Colony, most of the population is multilingual and English is commonly spoken as a second language. The University of Nicosia as well as other Universities in Cyprus use English as the official language of instruction and administration. Foreign or International students can easily navigate the university, the community, and travel throughout Cyprus.

Universities in Cyprus offer affordable tuition fees for as low as 2400-2800 EUR per session, they also offers moderate living expenses for international students for as low as 250-400 EUR per month. Dorm-style housing or hostels are available for students who wish to study abroad in Cyprus. Rooms are designed to accommodate one, two, or four students.
There are several advantages of studying in Cyprus, as it provides an ideal structure and environment for higher learning and has become a major international education center, attracting students from all over the countries.

Cyprus has the warmest climate and warmest winters in the Mediterranean part of the European Union. The average annual temperature on the coast is around 24 °C during the day and 14 °C at night. Generally, summer’s/holiday season lasts about 8 months, begins in April with average temperatures of 21–23 °C during the day and 11–13 °C at night, ends in November.
Study Abroad students can see the many archaeological sites scattered around the island, dating from the New Stone Age through to the Roman Empire. The capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, has wonderful bars and restaurants within the old walls of the city. A close look at the total land mass of Cyprus (3,572 sq mi) compared to Lagos state (1,381 sq mi) or Oyo state (10,986 sq mi) will show you just how small the country is. Also remember that the country is divided in to two parts, which means one part is the size of Lagos. With this in mind you are sure to experience more of one country than you could anywhere else, you will become very familiar with your surroundings and get to know the locals quickly. It is home to several amazing beaches, and there is something magical about that Mediterranean water. Ocean swimming, jet-skiing, banana boating, cliff diving – there are lots of ways to play in the sea. After a semester in Cyprus, it will really start to feel like home away from home.

The cost of living in Cyprus is incredibly reasonable, and once you start getting to know the locals you will barely pay a dime to have a good time in Cyprus. Cyprus is blessed with natural beauty and has one of the healthiest environments in the world, free from any kind of pollution; crime rate in Cyprus is next to nowt. Cyprus is a beautiful island to study abroad in, and offers beautiful beaches, mountain scenery, and cultural depth to any student eager to explore what it has to offer. Some call Cyprus the island of love.
