Studying in Canada

Studying in Canada from Nigeria can be a very exhilarating and rewarding experience. the Culture-shock can be a very harrowing experience. However, the rewards most definitely out weigh any efforts that might be expended, trying to fit in to/understand Canada, Here are 10 things every prospective student must know:

.1. CHOOSING A UNIVERSITY
Apparently, there are many factors to consider when selecting a university, such as tuition fees, Location, courses offered etc. it is also worthy to note that the well-known universities may not always be the best. Do some more digging and find out if there are more things you will be interested in the university such as extracurricular activities, available facilities and their state, and what former students say about the university. This is very much Important.

2. PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES
Most colleges and universities in Canada are fully publicly funded and accredited. This means you will likely enjoy high-quality education for free or at very low costs. Also, you will get a certificate that is widely recognized in most countries around the world. That’s a great deal.3 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

3 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
When applying to study abroad, the biggest challenge tends to be fees. Most especially in the premium countries like USA, UK. Winning a scholarship means escaping the high costs involved when studying abroad. However, to apply for a scholarship to study in Canada, you must know the options available to you. This shouldn’t be any difficulty or you can always contact Agents of study abroad placements for further scholarship guides like https://www.imperialedservices.com

4 ACCOMMODATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
There are several accommodation options to choose from. Staying on campus could be the most convenient for one with maximum benefits such as ease of access to university facilities e.g the library, halls, clubhouse, and savings on transport cost. Other options, depending on your budget, will include homestays where you live in a family’s room for rental or with a host family like most people do. Some students will argue that this is a better option as it provides them with the feeling of being at home. But sometimes one most always consider proximity to the university.

5 PART-TIME JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS
The good news is Students can work for twenty hours per week while they study. And during the holidays. There are various part-time jobs available on and off-campus for students. Furthermore, you can choose to stay and work full-time once you complete your studies. Fascinating!

6 OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT
You will most definitely need a bank account to keep your money safe and avoid having too much cash on you. Most Canadian banks do not charge withdrawal and deposit fees. Also, most Canadian trade deals are cashless. However, check with other students to understand which banks they use and compare the benefits and find what fits you.

7 PREPARE TO LIVE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY
Canada is a multicultural nation, the people, the food, the transportation, and the weather, will be very different compared to where you are coming from. Prepare to find yourself feeling totally clueless in social settings. However, take this as a learning curve, take advantage of your study period to learn about the various cultures and experience exotic flavors of the Canadian cuisine. Sure, you will come back for more.

8 CUTTING COSTS
Do not spend money on items you do not need always remember that. Before you leave home, get in touch with the International Relations office, this will give you an idea of how much you will be spending so that you plan your finances in advance. Also, get in touch with other students to find out approximately how much they spend per month and which options are cheaper when buying things. Lastly, to get the most value out of your money, always keep track of your exchange rates.

9 THE WEATHER
You must prepare yourself for months of very cold weathers. In addition to buying heavy winter jackets, you will need some gloves, a hat, and some waterproof boots. Do not let this put you off, it’s just a regular seasonal phenomenon you will sure love and get used to it in the long run.

10 LANGUAGE
Canada has two official languages: English and French, wow! Surprised, aren’t you? Thus, international students planning to study in Canada must be fluent in at least one of these languages. Most of or Much of Canada’s French-speaking population reside in Quebec province. Therefore, you will likely need French proficiency as part of your requirements, on top of your English language. This addition is always optional
